My Chemical Romance have confirmed that they’ll spend 2027 working on a new album.
Frontman Gerard Way detailed the band’s upcoming plans during their fourth of five sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday night, which mark the final dates of “The Black Parade Tour.”
“Next year, we want to go make a record, so we’re probably not doing any shows,” Way explained. There’s no secret code to that… but seriously, we want to go do that and then hopefully we’ll see you guys in 2028.”
Way previously hinted at plans for a new album during on-stage comments last month, saying, “We should probably make more songs… Stuff happens, life happens, but just know that we kind of really always wanted to make another record. You guys kept us alive so long; you guys deserve another record, and we’d love to make it.”
Elsewhere during Friday’s show at the Hollywood Bowl, My Chemical Gerard Way reunited with The Used’s Bert McCracken for a pair of performances. Way first joined The Used for “Buried Myself Alive” during their opening set, while McCracken returned the favor by joining MCR for “You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison” during their headlining set. Once close friends, collaborators and fixtures of the 2000s emo scene, Way and McCracken had been publicly estranged for nearly two decades following Way’s decision to get sober. The two reportedly reconciled over the past year, leading to Friday’s on-stage reunion.
My Chemical Romance released their most recent album, Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys, in 2010. In 2022, they put out the one-off “The Foundations of Decay.” Recently, they further marked the 20th anniversary of Black Parade with a 20th anniversary reissue.
