For over a year, Nicolas Cage has been rumored to star in the fifth season of True Detective — something he quasi-confirmed was happening at New York Comic-Con last weekend. Now, he has a new partner — or nemesis? Antonio Banderas is joining Season 5 of HBO’s Emmy-winning series, to be showrun by Season 4 writer/director Issa López. HBO confirmed the news Friday afternoon with a social media post.

Beyond the casting, the only confirmed facts so far, per Deadline, are that Cage will play a character named Henry Logan and Banderas will play a character named Rai Garcia. One or both of them will likely be detectives. Also, an important detail for any True Detective season is its location, with this one reportedly set in Jamaica Bay, New York. Production will begin in 2027.

Cage made his TV debut earlier this year in the bugnuts Prime Video/Marvel Comics series Spider-Noir, while Banderas previously starred in Nat Geo’s anthology series Genius as Pablo Picasso, for which he received an Emmy nomination.
